Dickicht
c-type prints, 2002-2004
20x24, Edition of 6

Somewhere in the global urban jungle lies the park. Within the park lie hidden certain areas that are appropriated by their specific user group. The spaces in these photos are Cruising Grounds: hidden spaces in public parks for men to meet and cruise for sexual encounters.
These images were taken in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Mexico City and Berlin. The certainty of spatial identification is undermined. The common safety to locate and identify a space is transformed into an invisible signification of desire. Embedded in the park is the existence of such spaces only visible to the user who looks out for them and is able read the signifiers.
